I don’t want to hurry it! That itself is a poisonous twentieth-century attitude. When you want to hurry something, that means you no longer care about it and you want to get on to other things. I just want to get at it slowly, but carefully and thoroughly…
— Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, Robert M. Pirsig
This is not the 2008 “Thankful for…” post I intend to write. That one is still in the works.
In the mean time…
Here’s a little thing I wrote last year. I posted this somewhere else then (that blog has been effectively deleted btw), but with the Holiday quickly approaching I think (or rather “hope”) it’s fun to reminisce about the past.
NOTE: I am just copy and pasting this article. I’m not exactly sure what embarrasing tidbits I may have placed here. I have not read it since I last wrote it. I will read it as you do when it goes “live”.
Here we go:
Emily Zemler’s article in The Aquarian prompted me to think about what things I was thankful for.
I’m thankful for technourishment. I can’t live without my iMac, iPod, and Blackberry that will eventually be replace by the 2nd generation iPhone (I have this thing about first generation technology).
I’m thankful for Googleverse: Search, Blogger, Gmail, Docs, Calendar, Talk, Maps, Earth, and You Tube.
I’m thankful for Virb. A social network with class and style.
I’m thankful for wonderful parents who haven’t thrown me out yet and let me live virtually rent free. I now pay half the cable. But for a mini apartment, stocked cabinets, and home cooked meals I’m not complaining.
I’m thankful that my father still loves going to concerts and rocking his ass off. So, I’m also thankful for getting to see The Who, Roger McGuinn, John Foggerty and Ryan Shaw with him.
I’m thankful for Granpa Soup, Mom’s Chicken Soup and Uncle Joe’s Pea Soup.
I’m thankful for Mixed Martial Arts. There’s no room for privilege, race, upbringing, education or projected talent once you enter the cage. Even the best fighters in the world know what a loss feels like. If you don’t “Practice!?!”, then you’re probably not going to last very long. There is no room for overpaid and over-hyped cry babies in this sport.
I’m thankful for October Road. Not since Felicity have there been characters I can truly identify with.
I’m thankful for Pizza Girl (a.k.a. Lindy Booth) and her gorgeous red hair
I’m thankful for Pizza too. The perfect I’m-not-sure-what-I-want meal.
I’m thankful for my coworkers. We really do have a blast!
I’m thankful for Bookreporter.com introducing me to titles like Hick by Andrea Portes, The Art Thief by Noah Charney and Setting the Table by Danny Meyer.
I’m thankful for Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance. It centers me every time I read it.
I’m thankful for Weeds, Californication, and the L Word. Now, that’s television with balls!
I’m thankful for “real” friends. There’s no bullshit. There’s no facade. I am me and they are them. They never let me get away with anything and always put me in my place if I try. It sucks being loved, but I’d have it no other way.
I’m thankful for sexy little things like small breasts. You can call me crazy, but I don’t like being suffocated. Ladies, small breasts are sexy!
Speaking of little things. I’m thankful for Kristen Bell being on Heroes. When Veronica Mars was cancelled I was upset. And now she’s my favorite Hero after Hiro.
